You are Corrupt!
I remember 3 years ago 🤔; I was studying engineering 1st year. I applied for a driving license, and I cleared the first round, i.e., exam. ✍️
Then, I booked a slot for the driving test.📝
I went to the RTO office that day with my father's old bike. I was standing in the long queue, waiting for my turn. ⏳️
When it was my turn, the officer verified the documents and asked me to show him my bike. He saw it. Then he asked: "Where is your helmet 🪖? Without it, you can't attend the driving test". I managed to borrow it from a stranger.
I again stood in the queue, waiting for my turn.
Meanwhile, a stranger approached me and said they would not accept my application even if I had all the records and asked for a ₹2000 bribe. 💵
I thought I had all the documents, so why should I bribe them. 😎
Now again, my turn came. ⏳️
The officer verified the bike and asked: "Where are the mirrors 🪞?" And also pressed the rear tire's brake and observed that the red light at the back was not glowing. So, he refused my application and asked me to bring another bike.😢
I was exhausted. I thought of not applying for a driving license anymore. 😓 I asked the officer what was the way forward to get my license. He said: "₹2000". 💰
I gave ₹2000 to him. This time there was no queue, and I went directly into the office and gave my thumb impression. ✅
In this story, Who is corrupt? Is it me or the officer? 🤷
The obvious answer is me. My inability to not comply with the rules made me offer a bribe.
At the same time administration's cumbersome rules, which are difficult to understand for a common person, open the way for corruption. 😖
For example, if traffic police stopped you for not wearing a helmet. We prefer giving a ₹100 bribe instead of a ₹500 fine.
Who is corrupt here? The policeman or we? 🤷
It's we not complying with the rules that make the system corrupt.
India is the most corrupt country in Asia. 😦
According to the corruption perception index, India ranked 86 out of 179 in corruption.
Is this India what our freedom fighters had aspired for? There is no use of a person to the country who thinks that he alone can't change the world. One is enough to change the world. Why not that person be me 🙋? And why not that person be you? 🫵
